Dr. Laura Northerner, PhD, is a fully licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with children, families, couples and adults. She provides evidence-based psychotherapy to clients across the lifespan. Dr. Northerner sees the strength, value and courage in every client, and she sees their boundless potential. Dr. Northerner works collaboratively with clients to create a treatment plan that evolves with the patient’s needs. She focuses on her client’s strengths and resiliencies to foster growth.

Dr. Northerner has extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). She has experience treating anxiety, OCD, phobias, depression, trauma, grief and loss, ADHD, behavior challenges in children, relationship distress, and adjustment difficulties to life stressors and life transitions. Additionally, she provides parenting guidance and support.

Dr. Northerner received her Bachelor of Arts, Master’s Degree, and Doctorate from Wayne State University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Michigan's Mary A. Rackham Institute. Dr. Northerner has over 10 years of clinical experience in various settings, including community mental health, private practice, and university clinics. She has experience teaching at Wayne State University, and is a published researcher. She is a member of both American Psychological Association and the Michigan Psychological Association.
